Day One Arrive at Johannesburg Airport by 08h30 in time to check in for the 10h00 flight to Skukuza Airport, in the Kruger National Park. This is only an hours flight so at 11h00 you will be met at Skukuza by a representative from Rhino Post Safari lodge and your safari starts now. It is a 30 minute game drive through the Kruger Park to the lodge. Upon arrival at Rhino Post Safari Lodge you will be greeted by the friendly front-of-house team and welcomed with a chilled home-brewed iced tea or drink from the bar and have a briefing on the lodge schedule. You may have to relax main deck overlooking the dry river bed and water hole and see what animals come to welcome you while you wait for your room to be ready. Check in time for Rhino Post Safari Lodge is between at 13h00. Once you are in your room you will have time to settle in. Guests are offered a high tea at 15h30 in the lounge overlooking the waterhole in front of the lodge before departing for an afternoon / evening game drive at 16h00. High teas offer a selection of savory snacks and cakes as well as teas, coffee and fruit juices.
Day Two You will receive an early wake-up call, although you won’t beat the birds out of bed, and will have time for a cup of tea or coffee, fruit, muffins or biscotti before heading out on your game drive. On the drive you may encounter a wide range of wildlife and your guide will surprise you by spotting animals and birds that those unused to the bush may not even notice. Every game drive is an adventure and each has its own special moments. Midway through your game drive, your guide will stop for a tea or coffee break before returning to the lodge. Once back at the lodge, brunch will be served. Brunch is usually served between 10h00 and 10h30 but this is dependent on the season and the length of the morning drive. After brunch there is ample time to freshen up and check out. At 14h00 you will be transferred by 4x4 to Plains Camp (home of Rhino Walking Safaris), a trip which takes about 30 minutes and is a mini-game drive in itself. After settling into your 19th century explorer-style luxury tent and being shown around the camp, high tea is served followed by a briefing by your guide on the ‘do’s & don’ts’ of bush walking by your guide. After the guides have been through the safety precautions, you will set off on a short introductory walk which is always an exhilarating experience. You will later return to the vehicle in time for sun-downers and enjoy a short night drive before returning to camp.
Day Three An early wake up call and after a cup of coffee and a rusk leave with your rangers on the morning walk. The average duration of the morning walk being between 3 and 4 hours. During the morning walk there is a stop for a rest and light snack. On each walking safari our guides will share their wealth of “bush culture’’ - not only identifying flora and fauna but also explaining the medicinal uses of plants, local folk lore and interpreting wildlife tracks in the sand. A hearty brunch is served after getting back from the morning walk. Choose to take the opportunity to cool off in in the plunge pool or simply relax on the deck while doing some more game-watching over the Timbetene Plain. High tea is followed by an afternoon walk. The length of the evening walk depends on the time of the year, but usually lasts not more than an hour and is typically combined with a short game drive. Once back at the lodge meet for drinks around the fire, followed by dinner complete the day.
Day Four After a light snack and tea or coffee you’ll be taken on another safari walk. After the walk there will be the chance to freshen up and brunch will be served. You’ll then be transferred to Rhino Post Safari Lodge for check out. After checking out you will be transferred to your next stop - Kruger Shalati. This is a 40 minute game drive through the Kruger Park. On your arrival you will be welcomed with a drink and taken to your carriage room, time to settle in and enjoy the amazing view. Walk back to the restaurant where lunch will be ready, after a great meal go back and enjoy the amazing room and view and get ready for the afternoon safari. Late afternoon (16h00) meet your ranger and depart on the evening game drive, stop in the bush for sun-downers watching the splendor of the African sun setting over the mountains. Drinks are accompanied by snacks and some South African specialties. After the sun set stop the drive is continued with the aid of spot lights looking for any animals not yet spotted. Returning after your adventure to the lodge, for a delicious dinner under the African sky.
Day Five Early morning wake-up call (+-5:00 am) and a welcome cup of hot coffee before embarking on the morning game drive with your ranger. Half way through the drive the ranger will stop for a break and a cup of coffee, the last half of the drive will be back to the train. After at least three hours you will be back and enjoy a hearty breakfast/brunch. After breakfast there is time to freshen up then enjoy the train, your room and go for a swim in the pool over the river while watching animals come to the Sabie River below you. Lunch will be served in the bridge house for you to enjoy, then some more free time to spend in your carriage. Late afternoon is "safari time" Meet your ranger and depart on the afternoon evening game drive, stop in the bush for sun-downers watching the splendor of the African sun setting over the mountains. Drinks are accompanied by snacks and some South African specialties. After the sun set stop the drive is continued with the aid of spot lights looking for any animals not yet spotted. Returning after your adventure to the train, for a delicious dinner under the African sky.
