Pilanesberg Day Safaris

The Best Big 5 Day Safari from Johannesburg

A Pilanesberg Day Safari is ideal to explore the big five African bush on a limited time schedule. Only a 2 hour scenic drive northwest of Johannesburg and Pretoria is the Pilanesberg National Park.

The day safari experience is structured to avoid the midday heat when wildlife activity and sightings are limited. It gives you the best opportunity to take advantage of the prime viewing hours of the late afternoon, sunset and early evening. It is at this time that the African Bush comes to life, when the nocturnal wildlife species such as lion, leopard and hyena become active.

The three hour late afternoon and sunset open vehicle safari game drive is hosted by a qualified, Pilanesberg Parks Board field guide. The vehicles are in radio contact with each other so you have a better chance of finding the animals. Included in this safari is approximately half an hour of night game spotting with spotlights.

More About the Pilanesberg Day Safari

The safari is approximately 11 hours, departing Johannesburg 09h30 and Returning 21h00 (Winter - May to August) and departing at 10h30 returning at 22h00 (Summer - September to April).

Two or three-day safaris can be arranged if you have the time.

The 55 000 hectares (132 000 acres) of Pilanesberg National Park are home to some 10 000 animals and the park is now one of the privileged reserves hosting the Big Five and 364 species of bird.

This is a Malaria free area.

This is one of the most popular day visits as it offers so much in one day. While it is a lot to take in, it is balanced and spaced out, giving you time to absorb the experience.
